Secret

34:52 Secret
12 is not too old to pretend...

Eenie Meenie

A common sight/sound...

Just because

we happened to have a little leftover pound cake and a bit of icing...
and Samuel claimed it was his beloved polar bear's birthday.  He turned "15."

Tire swing

It's not just for people...

Swim playdate

We had a swimming play date yesterday and it was a blast!  Four moms and eight kids (all were 4 or under except Emma).  I can't believe that was the first time we've swam this summer!  We have had our little pools filled a couple of times and played in the hose/sprinkler, but to actually go swimming, this was it!  We know we have some great swim time ahead on our Florida vacation in a couple of months though!

I love the progression of these photos with Lucas and his age-mate Emory:

Watching

33:52 Out of focus

boys will be boys

Samuel with his mini collection of cicada shells... (at his feet)
We found a handful of them and then continued looking in that area (by a tree in our front yard) and ended up finding TWENTY-THREE of them!  I may have climbed a tree with broom in hand and knocked 4 or 5 down from a high branch.  :)
Lucas and Samuel couldn't wait to SMASH them... stop on them, crush them, ride over them with their bikes...  they could barely restrain themselves for me to get a picture...

There were some acrobatics of course...
In our search for cicada shells, we found a worm.  It was no longer living, but still quite fascinating...
Locust shells, worms, and things that squirm... that's what little boys are made of.

two and a half

Back in July near the time Lucas turned 2 1/2, he and I ventured out on a 5 minute photo shoot.  He wore his favorite hat (he refers to as his cowboy hat), and explored a small section of Queen Anne's Lace in our neighborhood.  He was so interested in the flowers that it was hard to get him to look at me.  Afterwards though I was thrilled with the pictures... more so than with his 2-year-old pictures so I decided to document this age formally by sending pictures to family.  These are truly some of my favorite photos of him EVER.  They clearly show his beautiful eyes, his interest and vest for life, and the sweet precious spirit of him...

The first day of school

Monday was the first day of school for our two oldest:

Some of what Emma and I did on our first day of home school:

After we picked Nathan up from school I took the kids out for ice cream cones.  We also had a special treat after dinner...

The end of summer

For our last hurrah before school started we went to a family fun center for an afternoon of fun with other families from Grandma's church.  We've been to this place before and knew the kids would be thrilled.  It was a great way to end summer break!

Time with Grandma and Grandpa

We so enjoyed our trip to Wisconsin.  We had some down time for the kids to just play and enjoy being at Grandma and Grandpa's house... the drums are always a favorite:

This time Nathan played "for real" since he has a whole year of drum lessons under his belt!
 Bedtime books

One day we visited an awesome new park nearby!
This slide was SO much fun (even for Mom!)

Grandma & Grandpa even got in on the fun!

And another day we went to a Zoo!

Sister/Brother snuggles on the train ride

We also got to hang out with Uncle Jordan for a while at a really cool restaurant that had great food, yummy ice cream, and their own Carousel!

Great summer memories!
