Dream Come True

11:52 Dream Come True

I thought long and hard about what to do for this.  Usually my photos are more spontaneous, but this theme deserved something special.

So much is wrapped up in this image... my amazing husband, our four precious children, the love and closeness we all feel as family, the home we have made together; as parents, the covering of prayer we provide for our children; the protection and guidance Brian gives our family and household; and our relationships with our Lord that overshadow everything .
All these things... this life I'm living... this is my dream come true.

A new pair of eyes

A few weeks ago we had a surprise at Lucas's 3-year-old check-up.  He did great on his first ever eye test for one eye, but was unable to get any items correct for the other eye.  We weren't sure if he was actually unable to see out of that eye (like Daddy, who is blind in one eye) or if it was more an issue of attention and just being three.  It seemed to me that there really was an issue, but we didn't know for sure until we took him to a pediatric ophthalmologist last Thursday.  He was very cooperative with the various tests and even the unpleasant eye drops and blurry eyes.  What a little trooper!

We found out that the vision in his left eye is good with just a slight astigmatism, but his left eye is around 20/60 with a little worse astigmatism as well.  So, we were off to find glasses!
We are really hoping these do the trick as the Dr. said if not we will have to patch his good eye to help make the weaker one stronger.  He is not fond of eye patches at all (had to wear one on each eye at alternating times for the vision test).  The best news is that he *might* outgrow this in a few years.  Time will tell.
Our hunt for glasses didn't go well that day as Lucas was too tired from a day in the car and no nap... but we had a good evening playing with his new bubble maker!
Samuel kept trying to eat them!

The next day we went to a couple of other places to try on glasses.  It was not easy to find pairs small enough for his sweet little face, and even when we did, many had ear pieces that were too long and couldn't be trimmed.  We FINALLY found some that would work though and Lucas even seemed agreeable!
Trying out his new prescription sunglasses!
Bubbles again!
This seemed like the perfect time to implement all the kids wearing sunglasses outside, per our eye doctor's recommendation.

Glasses are pretty cool!-  They actually protect your eyes from streams of bubbles!

At dinner that night we all made glasses out of licorice strings to celebrate!

Two handsome guys in their glasses
Glasses twins-- a boy and his mom
You can still have just as much fun when you are wearing glasses!  (and maybe even fall less and run into things less!)
Since Lucas only had his glasses for a few hours the first day (Friday), we told him that if he did a good job wearing them ALL DAY on Saturday then we would go out for ice cream after dinner.  He did great!
That morning he put his glasses on first thing and said, "I can see really well!"
For church Sunday I thought his bow tie completed the look!  He got lots of attention about his new glasses and did really well again.  This has certainly been an adjustment, but he has done much better than expected.  The most difficult part is keeping his lenses clean!
I have never seen Lucas make this face before, but for some reason as soon as he got glasses he suddenly began doing this whenever I want to take his picture.  Thankfully he's still willing to smile after he gets this silly pose out of the way!

Date Knight

All ready to go to Chic-fil-a!

In the process of being "knighted"
 It's official!
Their first act of service was to present me with a flower (Lucas insisted on yellow since that is his favorite color)

Of course there was yummy food
And the Cow made an appearance... he was a BIG hit!

The balloon swords were very cool
Samuel was a wild man on the slide!  And while they were up in a part of the play area where I couldn't see them I heard Samuel loudly proclaim, "Do NOT try to get him-- he's my brother!"  Some older boys were bothering them and Samuel later told me that he was protecting Lucas.
One last battle before heading for home...

While I was out with the boys, Emma and Daddy had a special date... Wendy's (Emma's pick) for dinner WITH Frosty's, then a movie at home.

St Patrick's Day

To our kids, St. Patrick's Day is basically a day to wear green and eat green food.  We do talk about who St. Patrick was but don't elaborate much because this isn't a holiday that holds any real significance to us.

That said, the kids really look forward to a day of green!

Breakfast!

 Lucky Charms math!

Part of the mess the boys made while Emma and I did school

LUNCH

Emma said everything looked like the Emerald City

Emma took this picture of me trying on her glasses

Dinner

 So much GREEN!

Snow dough

We made Snow-dough one day just for fun... we found some animals we thought might like to play in it and had a good time.  It keeps well and doesn't dry out so I'm sure we'll have it out again soon!
