Mixels

Mixels are a newish kind of lego creature that all the kids like.  In the Lego magazine there was a contest to Make Your Own Mixel.  All four kids wanted to participate, so they had to create their Mixel, name it, and write some details about it.

This is Emma's:

This is Brain Freeze. He belongs to the Ice tribe. When he has extra time he likes to play games with his friends Icicle and Frosty. They like to have snowball fights.
Brain Freeze can pour a green liquid into his head and it turns blue and shoots out of a little hole in his head. When it shoots out (in any direction he wants it), it freezes the Nixels. He brings them into his ice cave and adds them to his frozen Nixel collection.
He eats snow cakes standing up since he cannot sit down. He sleeps laying down but since he cannot bend at the waist he has a hard time getting up so his snow cat, Iceberg, helps push him up.

 Lucas's:

My Mixel's name is Big Robo. He belongs to the Construction tribe. He can reach really far and spray water out of his arms. He can shoot fire balls out of his cannon. His tale is a submarine. He is really good at catching fish when he goes under water. He is a happy Mixel but he only has one friend, who's name is Lucas.

Samuel's Mixel

This is Super Sonic Wheels (SSW). He belongs to the Bear Hive tribe. He really likes bears.

SSW sprays ice out of his super long fingernail. His eye and his hair can stretch if he needs them to. His eye will stretch to see something far away and his hair will stretch to tickle a branch if he wants it to.

It's very hard for him to climb up trees because he would slip. He is super duper fast on his wheels (faster than anything, even Flash). He always wins the Mixel races. When he sees Nixels he either drives over them or freezes them. If he freezes them he picks them up and makes Nixel ice stew to eat. His favorite food is watermelon.

He's very old... 99 years old.

Emma's 8-year-old pictures

We took these in June, but it has taken a long time to get them posted.  That's what happens when you are a photographer's kid... your pictures get put on the back burner while your mom finishes everyone else's pictures.

So without further ado...

She paused for a bit to watch some bright orange fish...
You can see her turtle swimming away...
We spent some time trying to find the turtle again...

She wanted a few pictures with her doll

1st day of school

Nathan had to leave dark and early for his first day:
The other kids had a little later start

Lucas went off with Grandma for the morning.  He was all ready with his mouse ears, John Deere boots, and bag of stuff.
Samuel's first experience of home school was pretty good.
I only asked him to do the pages for letters A through D in his new Star Wars Phonics book, but as soon as he was done with all of his other work for the day, he went back to it and worked all the way through to Z!
Our motto for this school year
 Emma
Later in the week we made solar powered robots... lots of fun!

The end of summer

To celebrate the last night of summer vacation we all went to our favorite frozen yogurt place after dinner.  Emma and Nathan had spent the previous night at Grandma's house, while the younger boys had a fun night out with Mom and Dad.

At bedtime we read:
to our soon-to-be kindergartener!

Frozen Day

Our last week day before school began was FROZEN DAY!
I didn't get the usual pictures of everyone in their costumes.  We were pretty casual.  Emma was Elsa of course, Samuel was Kristoff, and Lucas was Snowman.  Brian and I were Ana and Elsa's parents.

Sven for breakfast
 Emma made a pin-the-nose-on-the-Olaf game

Madison and Gabby joined us for the morning

 Some of our "ice" paintings

We also had to figure out how to get jelly beans and bouncy balls out of ice cubes...
 A favorite activity was make-your-own-Olaf
