For Christmas Emma received sets to "grow" Ladybugs and Butterflies. A few weeks ago it was finally warm enough to get started and the little caterpillars and ladybug larvae came in the mail!
We watched and waited patiently for the larva to turn into pupa's and then transform into ladybugs, and for the caterpillars to form their cocoons.

We continued to check on the cocoons several times a day until finally we saw butterflies!
There were four and we had great fun feeding them fresh carnations dipped in sugar water, orange slices and watermelon pieces! After about a week and a half we knew it was time to set them free so they could have "the whole world" to fly in! Emma chose a flower garden at our park because there would be plenty of flowers for the ladybugs and butterflies to eat from.
It was a sad but also exciting day. Samuel would've grabbed and played with each ladybug if I'd let him!
The ladybugs scattered fairly quickly and easily but the butterflies required a little help. One wanted to remain on one of its familiar flowers so we just moved the flower out too.
Goodbye Friends!
