Our bank website has a calculator to estimate the cost of raising children. It asks for our annual income and the ages of each child. This was our result:
I don't know how accurate this is, but I do know it costs a lot to raise a child... When they are little though it seems to me that it costs more of my time and attention than money. Sure there are diapers and food and they need healthcare and clothing... But really, on a day to day basis the pull on my body and brain are more noticeable than the drain on my pocketbook.
Parenting certainly involves investing but money (even the large amount outlined above) is only a small part of the actual contribution. If you are a parent, you know what I'm talking about.
The returns are also much greater than the amount of time, effort, money, love, energy, commitment, sacrifice, sweat and tears we put into it.
