We spent Brian's actual birthday working with my sisters and nephew on some major yard work that needed done at Mom's and Brian had requested that we wait until the following Monday to celebrate him... we mostly waited, but had to have a little birthday cake on the actual day!
Trying to cut the cake.. okay, so we didn't really make him share...
That night Brian and I took Nathan, Emma, Samuel, and our nephew Wes to the drive in (an hour or so away).
This is what the sky looked like when we got there:
The kids had a great time playing while we were waiting for the movie to begin... and for the rain to begin...
Can you see the raindrops on their clothing?
It didn't just rain, it POURED! There was a little thunder and TONS of lightning!
Yep, we spent the rest of the evening in the van.
Samuel sitting on Dad's lap in the front seat:
This was not only his first Drive-In, but his first time seeing a movie on a big screen. He said, "Mom, that's the biggest TV we ever seen!"
The popcorn and nachos still tasted good and we even had a couple of breaks where we could make a snack run without getting soaked or where we could turn the windshield wipers down to low.
The movie was good too.
Meanwhile, Lucas had a first of his own, on his own... he spent the night at Grandma's house! We knew he would be fine since he's so easy going and did not want to wake him so late when we returned so Grandma just brought him back home in the morning. He loved having Grandma and two Aunts all to himself!
