The level of excitement in our home was quite high on Lucas's birthday! It wasn't just Lucas-- the other kids were thrilled for him!
First thing in the morning he asked if he could open a gift. I told him to go ask Samuel & Emma. They said yes, so we let him!
He began his special day with some time at Grandma's house while we were doing school. I had already baked and iced his cake, though he hadn't seen it. So, I decorated it while he was gone.
He loved it!

After lunch we all got to celebrate outside in the snow! We only had about an inch but it was enough to bring them lots of joy!
After warming up with some hot chocolate, he had a good nap. We decorated.
During Emma's ballet class we took him to get his birthday balloon. He wanted a dragon balloon but there weren't any. He happily chose a BIG Jake balloon!
Finally it was time for dinner and his party! He ordered shrimp and corn on the cob!
He couldn't wait to get to the presents!

At bedtime the night before he had told me he didn't want to turn four. He seemed to be afraid it would somehow change him. I reassured him that he could still do all the same things he did when he was three... could eat the same foods, could play with the same toys, etc. That seemed to help.
At bedtime on his birthday he talked about his favorite things of the day: the presents, the cake, and the eating... but said, "I don't like being four." I guess that's how it is for a little guy who is completely happy as he is. He recently told me, "I like being myself."
We think he'll like being four also...
