Vacation Part I- The arrival

The first week of July we set out on our longest and farthest vacation as the {largest} family we've ever been!  We went to Gulf Shores, AL to stay in a condo owned by a good friend of ours.  Brian and I have decided that vacations aren't truly that for us right now (though we did have some chill time in the evenings after the kids went to bed)-- vacations at this point in our lives are about making memories... and through all the juggling and stress we treasure the squeals of excitement and lights in the eyes of our dear children... and we know that all the work is worth it a hundred times over!
We spent our first travel night in a hotel in Athens, AL, then drove the rest of the way the next day.  Due to a mix up we spent our first night in Gulf Shores in a hotel room that only had one bed, but we were so thankful to find something with no advance notice at 9pm on a Saturday night.  We made a little bed on the floor for our three oldest with the one spare blanket and bedspread the hotel had left.  They thought it was pretty cool.
We spent the whole next day (the third day of our trip) exploring the city and waiting for our condo to become available.
The kids' first view of the beach... from our balcony.
Views from the balcony (to the right first- we swam in this pool often, then to the left)

Trying to get a group picture.  Is this the best we can do?  After three days in the car... yes!
Lucas was happy to be out of the car (although he traveled really well!)
