We saw so many interesting critters and creatures while in Gulf Shores... it was a real learning experience for the kids, and also for Brian & I. Some of the most amazing creatures we saw were the crabs-- so colorful and really just beautiful! We came home with bunches of shells and quite a few crab legs too!
One morning we saw a large sting ray about 10 feet away in water that was knee deep. We watched it for several minutes as it was moving pretty slowly and I managed to get a couple of pictures.
Later that afternoon I saw something I thought was a crab partially hidden in the sand in the water a few feet from me. I moved closer and realized that it was another sting ray This one was much smaller so I quietly snuck up and took a few pictures of it. One of the many jelly fish along the shore...
A common sight, several jelly fish lying close together
One day we were hanging out on our balcony and noticed that everyone had gotten out of the water and people were standing along the beach watching and pointing. I got my camera so I could zoom in and take a few pictures. There were sharks! We have pictures of at least two sharks swimming together and after they disappeared a flock of seagulls descended upon the same area of water.
We let the kids stay up late one night to go crab hunting along the beach... We collected lots of shells and had a great time walking with our flashlights. The loved exploring the beach!
The remains of a sand castle we discovered:The next day Brian thought he would try to actually catch a crab just for fun (we watched several run through the shallow water). Here he is searching- he almost got one but it "crabbed" (barely pinched) him.
