Vacation Part VI- Fort Morgan

One afternoon during our vacation we traveled a few miles to the end of the peninsula.  We knew there was a State Park but also found that it was a historical site- an old Fort that was active in previous wars.
Construction on the fort began in 1819, and was completed in 1834. This large brick fort serviced the Civil War, Spanish-American War and both world wars. It played a major role during the Battle of Mobile Bay (1864).   You can read more about it here.

It was an extremely hot day and the kids were pretty grumpy so we didn't get to explore the area as much as Brian & I would've liked, but we did see what we went there to see, plus much more...

The only family picture taken on our trip (the fort is up a ways behind us)

A view from above (I did not take this, but thought it was neat to see the whole area)
