And then came the tree

On Saturday we piled into the van and drove to a nearby tree farm to pick our Christmas tree.  Throughout our married years we've had a variety of experiences with this task.  The most notable was our second Christmas but the first one we celebrated at home.  It was a beautiful snowy evening when Nathan, Brian and I {pregnant with sweet Emma} set out to cut down our own tree.  The world around us glistened and we were all so full of Christmas spirit! It couldn't have been more perfect.
2005
I think I have held this memory in my mind and used it to measure each year since but few have come close.
There was the year that Santa popped in for a visit while we were there and we enjoyed cookies and hot chocolate while we waited for the tree to be ready.
2009
It wasn't snowy or snow-ing that year, but at least it was cold.
Probably the least ideal experience was last year when we picked our tree in the rain.  We had hopes of Santa and hot chocolate, but neither showed up. There was no way we were going to cut our own tree down in the rainy mud.  So, this year we wished for cold and snow for our tree hunting, but had to settle for a mildly cool day {52 degrees} because at least it wasn't raining!
Despite the not-so-Chrismasy-weather, it was a fun outing for us all!

Nathan helped with the cutting this year!  He discovered that it is harder than it looks!

Patiently waiting for Daddy to load the tree
Nathan took this picture (Samuel was to the side trying to get my attention, but got Lucas's instead)
And this is a good example of Lucas's level of activity these days; you can also hear him saying "whee!"
